UPSC NDA Exam Pattern 2023

  • The papers in the written exam will consist of objective-type questions only. 
  • The question papers of Mathematics and Part B of the General Ability Test will be set bilingually in Hindi as well as English.
  • As per the UPSC NDA Marking scheme, there will be a negative marking of One third (0.33) marks for each wrong answer marked by the candidates. Also, if a candidate gives more than one answer, it will be treated as a wrong answer even if one of the given answers happens to be correct and there will be the same penalty.

  • Current Events: Knowledge of Important events that have happened in India in recent years. Current important world events, Prominent personalities—both Indian and International including those connected with cultural activities and sports.

UPSC NDA Intelligence and Personality Test

The SSB procedure comprises two stages selection process – stage I and stage II. Candidates who will ace stage I are allowed to participate in stage II. The details are:

  • Stage I comprises Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests are Picture Perception Description Test (PP&DT). The candidates will be shortlisted based on a combination of performance in the OIR Test and PP&DT. 
  • Stage II Comprises Interviews, Group Testing Officer Tasks, Psychology Tests, and the Conference. These tests will be held over 4 days. The details of these tests will be notified on the official website.

The personality of a candidate is judged by three different assessors viz. The Interviewing Officer (IO), Group Testing Officer (GTO), and the Psychologist. There is no separate mark weightage for each test. The marks are given by assessors only after analyzing the performance of the candidate holistically in all the tests. In addition, marks for Conference are also assigned based on the initial performance of the candidates in the three techniques and the board’s decision.  All these are given equal weightage.
