Indian Railways Computer Based Examination: On April 15 and 16, Indian Railways will conduct the Appendix 3 IREM Examination through a computer-based test. The Ministry of Railways has requested that railway boards send the names of individuals who are qualified and willing to take the test as soon as possible, according to a notification that has been released.

The scheme of the Appendix-3 /IREM examination is conducted for promotion to the rank of supervisory posts of Senior Section Officer/Accounts/Sr.SO/Acs, Senior Inspector of Station Accounts/Sr.TIA & Senior Inspector of Stores Accounts/Sr.ISA.

Indian Railways Appendix 3 IREM Examination

As per the letter released, the cut-off for determining the eligibility of the candidates for appearing in the exam-is the date of notification, i.e., February 20, 2024.

The boards are asked to submit the names of the candidates who desire to answer their papers in Hindi from their units and no change in medium shall be entertained once the details of the candidates are submitted. The qualifying marks in the individual paper (both objective and subjective) will be 40% (for SC/ ST, it will be 30%). Candidates should obtain an aggregate of 45% in the three objective papers (for the SC/ST category, it will be 35%).

A candidate who qualifies all objective papers (individual and aggregate) and subjective papers will be declared successful to have passed the Appendix 3 IREM examination. The exemption for taking paper in subsequent attempts will be 60% and above. The exemption will only stay for five attempts, beyond which the paper needs to. be taken again.

The subjective paper will be conducted online. Question papers will be available on the computer and candidates will have to write answers on paper. Subjective papers will be evaluated only for candidates who qualify for all objective papers.

Indian Railways Appendix 3 IREM: Syllabus

The Appendix 3 IREM paper will have 3 objective type papers and one subjective paper. Check the paper wise syllabus as listed below 

Objective Paper 1: GRP, Establishment, PF, Pension/NPS, Labour Laws and Associated Finance, Expenditure, Books & Budget, Book-Keeping.

Objective Paper 2: Stores, Workshop, COS Procedure, Workshop Costing and Associated Finance, Expenditure & WMS & Stores Account.

Objective Paper 3: The third objective type paper will cover Traffic Accounts, Finance, Traffic Statistics/Costing, Station Accounts and Inspection.

Subjective Paper: One section on General Essay, Letter and Precise, and one compulsory question on Rajbhasha. The remaining parts will test the practical aspect of Finance and Accounts, approaching the Finance and Accounts case, comprehending the issue and conclusions arrived thereby. Numerical questions related to Advanced Book Keeping to judge analytical ability of the candidate for which the use of a calculator will be permitted.

Indian Railways Appendix 3 IREM: Eligibility Criteria

The candidates who have passed the examination laid down in Appendix 2 for promotion above the rank of Clerks Grade II or who have been exempted from passing that examination under the provision of any general rule laid down in the manual or separately by the Railway Board or hold the post of a Clerk Grade I substantively.

The candidates are considered eligible to appear in this examination unless they are permanent and have completed 5 years of continuous service in a railway accounts office, or three years if they are graduates. Check the detailed eligibility criteria from the link below
