The aim of the campaign is to encourage young voters to exercise their democratic rights. PM Modi has urged people from all walks of life to spread the message about the campaign.
  • Indian Railways restored the Second Class Ordinary Fares on Passenger Trains. The minimum ordinary fare has been reduced from ₹30 to ₹10 with effect from today. 
  • The Supreme Court (SC) of India asked the Indian Coast Guard to ensure women officers get permanent commissions. While hearing a plea filed by Indian Coast Guard officer Priyanka Tyagi seeking the grant of permanent commission to eligible women, the SC bench, comprising Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, directed the government and coast guard to ensure women officers get permanent commission. 
  • The inaugural “Pey Jal Survekshan Awards” are set to take place at Vigyan Bhawan on March 5, 2024, as announced by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, will chair the ceremony, which will recognise cities and states for their outstanding work in the water sector.

  • Namibia’s batter Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton breaks the record for the fastest-ever men’s T20 Internationals hundred. Loftie-Eaton hit a hundred off just 33 balls against Nepal, making him the quickest man to reach the milestone in T20Is. The previous fastest century in men’s T20Is belonged to Nepal’s Kushal Malla, who hit one off 34 balls versus Mongolia last year.

Important Day on 28th February

  • National Science Day: National Science Day is celebrated every year on February 28 to commemorate the discovery of the ‘Raman Effect’. The Indian Government designated February 28 as National Science Day in 1986. On this day, Sir C.V. Raman announced the discovery of the ‘Raman Effect’ for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1930. This year’s National Science Day theme is “Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat”.
