  • The Union Cabinet approves “PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana” for installing rooftop solar in one crore households. The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi launched the scheme on February 13, 2024.
  • The Union Cabinet approved the establishment of the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA), with headquarters in India, with a one-time budgetary support of Rs. 150 crore. The IBCA has been conceived as a multi-country, multi-agency coalition of 96 big cat range countries, non-range countries interested in big cat conservation.
    • On April 9, 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally announced the launch of an International Big Cat Alliance aimed at securing the future of big cats and the landscapes in which they thrive. Tiger, Lion, Leopard, Snow Leopard, Puma, Jaguar, and Cheetah are seven big cats, five of which are found in India.
    • India is home to tigers, lions, leopards, snow leopards, and cheetahs.
  • The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, will visit Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal on March 1 and 2. On his visit, the PM will dedicate to the nation the North Karanpura Super Thermal Power Project, Chatra. He’ll also inaugurate the Haldia-Barauni crude oil pipeline. 
  • The proposal to create a position at the level of Scientist H as Director of the National Institute of One Health, Nagpur, was approved by the Union Cabinet today. 
  • The establishment of three semiconductor units under the initiative “Development of Semiconductors and Display Manufacturing Ecosystems in India” was approved by the Union Cabinet today. 
  • The Central Government has announced an ex-gratia for the victims of a road accident in Dindori, Madhya Pradesh. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased, and the injured would be given Rs. 50,000.

  • PM KISAN, the largest direct benefit transfer programme in the world, crossed a new milestone. With the release of the 16th installment, the scheme has benefited more than 11 crore eligible farmer families, with Rs 3 lakh crores disbursed till date. 
  • The Department of Fertilisers’ proposal to fix the nutrient-based subsidy (NBS) rates for potassium and phosphoric fertilisers for Kharif Season 2024 and to include three new fertiliser grades in the NBS programme was accepted by the Union Cabinet today.
  • Today, the Union Cabinet approved royalty rates for the mining of 12 critical and strategic minerals: cadmium, beryllium, cobalt, indium, gallium, rhenium, selenium, tantalum, tellurium, titanium, vanadium, and tungsten.
