  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra on February 27–28, 2024. The PM will visit Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram, and inaugurate important space infrastructure projects. 
  • The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, inaugurated ‘Purple Fest’. The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment organised a day-long ‘Purple Fest’ at Amrit Udyaan in the Rashtrapati Bhawan today. The festival aims to raise awareness about different disabilities and their impact on people’s lives and to promote understanding and inclusion of persons with disabilities within society.
  • The Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, was on a one-day tour of Aizawl, Mizoram. He addressed the Ninth Mizoram Legislative Assembly.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Bharat Tex 2024 today at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. It is one of the largest-ever global textile events to be organised in the country. On this occasion, PM Narendra Modi said, “It is an excellent platform to highlight India’s exceptional capabilities in the textile industry.”  Bharat Tex 2024 will be organised from February 26–29, 2024. Drawing inspiration from the Prime Minister’s 5F Vision, Bharat Tex 2024 will focus on the entire textile value chain. 
  • The Government of India approved an interest-free loan to Flue Cured Virginia (FCV) tobacco growers in the state of Andhra Pradesh. In December, the MICHAUNG cyclone caused heavy rains in Andhra Pradesh, and the FCV tobacco crop-growing districts in Andhra Pradesh were severely affected by these cyclonic rains. In view of the hardships faced by FCV tobacco growers in Andhra Pradesh, the Government of India has approved a Rs 10,000 interest-free loan. FCV is mainly produced in India in two states: Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. 

Science and Technology News

  • A new study tracking pollen from the soil of Kaziranga National Park can interpret climate and vegetation change. Scientists from Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences have developed a modern analogue dataset based on pollen and non-pollen palynomorphs  from different vegetation settings across the Kaziranga National Park (Assam), which can help in the interpretation of the past vegetation and climate in a region.
